Beating the winter skin blues

It a new year and Winter is in full effect. By now most of us have gotten to show off all of our winter goodies such as fabulous boots and scarves.

Although those things are nice. Just like Summer , Winter can take a toll on our skin. From being out in the cold air  to being inside in the warmth of the heat our skin can get really dehydrated.

One of the main ways I beat the “winter skin blues” is by exfoliating. Exfoliating sloughs off that dry layer of skin that leaves your skin look dull and thirsty.  It also helps your skin to absorb moisturizer better if it’s applied soon after you exfoliate. you will notice a huge difference if you do this a few times a week and follow up with a good moisturizer.

Exfoliating can be done all over the body. It gives your skin a vibrant youthful glow. There are many options out there on the market  for exfoliants but I prefer to make my own

One of my favorite simple recipes is created with just plain white sugar and olive oil.

In a small container. Mix about a cup of sugar and 1/4 cup if olive oil.  If you find that the mixture is a bit to stiff and more oil to loosen it.

If you are pressed for time and want to exfoliate quickly. While in the shower or tub sprinkle a little sugar on a wet wash cloth and gently massage over skin remember to moisturize afterwards.
