In this world but not of this world

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you : Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work , and walking around life-and place it before God as an offering . Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking . Instead, fix your attention on God . You’ll be changed from the inside out . Readily  recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it .Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Quick styles and tips for hair emergencies

We’ve all had them, you know those days when your hair just doesn’t want to act right . no matter how you twist it , turn it, curl it , or twirl it. It just will not OBEY. Or you are running late for work and didn’t have enough time pull yourself all together.

Well here are few of my goto tips to get through those dreaded bad hair days . First things firsts head bands , bobby pins and scarves are you friend . Store them and stash them in easy to find places . Yes of course your bathroom but think of places such as your purse, your car , and in your desk or a personal storage space at work. These items can make you look pulled together in minutes.

Consider keeping a gallon ziplock bag on hand with all of your emergency essentials in them on the days you are running late, things like a travel bottle of hairspray, comb & brush, styling gel , hair ties , headbands , and bobby pins.

When all else fails ( assuming you have the time of course) a gorgeous top knot or messy bun always works . A sleek ponytail and let’s not forget my favorite goto for hair emergencies. Clip on ponytails , or my trusty wig that’s right it works every time . Though I wouldn’t recommend these be apart of your work stash always keep a really nice wig or hair piece on hand for those real emergencies , like when you can’t make it to your hair dresser and you have an important meeting or  It decides to rain on your freshly done do and you had big plans for the night.

I hope these tips help you make it through those rough hair days. In the comments section let me know what are some of your go to items for hair emergencies?

Making a statement with statement pieces

Bold , eyecatching, sparkly and most often quite large (hence the name statement piece). These type of accessories can be anything from a bold necklace , dangly super sparkly earrings , or an eyepopping cocktail ring . These types of pieces speak for themselves and can easily take a simple outfit from blah to wow !

When putting your outfit together keep in mind the attention these items command . You don’t want look gaudy and overdone.Trust me on that one I’ve loved some pieces so much and decided I should wear them all and ended up looking like a display case for the jewelry. It totally took away from the overall look I was trying to create.

So try not to over do it , If you go bold around the neck try to keep the earrings simple . If you want to bring more attention to your facial features going bold on the ears is quite the attention grabber, a simple dainty necklace or none at all, and to complete the look with a super standout cocktail ring to create an awesome style balance.

So whether you choose to go super simple or make your jewelry presence known. Your look should command a fierce confidence.

Until next time,

You are One of a kind

13. For you formed my innermost parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14. I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  wonderful are your works , and my soul knows it very well. .

Psalm 139:13-14 Amp.

Content whatever the circumstance

11. I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.  12. I know both how to have a little,  and I know how to have a lot.  In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content. Whether well-fed or hungry, whether in abundance or need. 13. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

February favorites

I’ve been enjoying a few new things  lately and decided to head to the blog and share.  Some of the items are gifts from Christmas and other are from my personal collection .

I’ll  start with the gifts. I’ve always liked candles but just got away from purchasing them simply because I could never smell them once I started burning  them.  I’d seen bath and body works candles advertised and thought it’s probably just another overly expensive stick of wax.  Boy was I ever wrong . I was gifted one from my client and went back soon after Christmas to purchase another because they had such an awesome smell. It lingers you don’t even have to burn it everyday. So these definitely made my top pick.

Next would be my Becca cosmetics ever-matte poreless priming perfector gifted to me by my sister . I have oily skin so this works great to mattify my makeup at the beginning of the day and by the end of the day when I’m typically a greasy mess it gives me a more Dewey look.img_20170131_104905

And from personal collection, usually every year around my birthday as a gift to my self I purchase my self shoes because I love shoes and mainly boots this year was no different. I wanted something in a different color other than my traditional black or brown. I didn’t want a high heel.  So I’d been going back and forth between just fab and shoe dazzle (I never order shoes online they tend not to fit right) and found a pair that I really liked and used a birthday Gift Card to purchase new boots  from justfab.com . Needless to say I’m in love. I opted for flats a great choice on my part. The fit is perfect and they are super comfortable .

And last but not least are earrings from my new collection (spring preview here) . I make a lot of pieces but I tend to steer away from studs but in this collection I decided to include them.  I love all the pieces in the collection but these have become my favorite which is odd because I never ever wear studs they just weren’t my thing.  These on the other hand have a subtle boldness about them that I’m really into.img_20170131_110251

Well that’s it for now.  I hope your year is getting along as planned if not do like the GPS says & reroute.

Until next time ,

Beating the winter skin blues

img_20170216_214448

It a new year and Winter is in full effect. By now most of us have gotten to show off all of our winter goodies such as fabulous boots and scarves.

Although those things are nice. Just like Summer , Winter can take a toll on our skin. From being out in the cold air  to being inside in the warmth of the heat our skin can get really dehydrated.

One of the main ways I beat the “winter skin blues” is by exfoliating. Exfoliating sloughs off that dry layer of skin that leaves your skin look dull and thirsty.  It also helps your skin to absorb moisturizer better if it’s applied soon after you exfoliate. you will notice a huge difference if you do this a few times a week and follow up with a good moisturizer.

Exfoliating can be done all over the body. It gives your skin a vibrant youthful glow. There are many options out there on the market  for exfoliants but I prefer to make my own

One of my favorite simple recipes is created with just plain white sugar and olive oil.

In a small container. Mix about a cup of sugar and 1/4 cup if olive oil.  If you find that the mixture is a bit to stiff and more oil to loosen it.

If you are pressed for time and want to exfoliate quickly. While in the shower or tub sprinkle a little sugar on a wet wash cloth and gently massage over skin remember to moisturize afterwards.

This is one of my go to winter resources. If there is a routine you use to keep your skin moisturized during the winter months leave them in comments below

New every morning

This I recall to my mind , therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed , because His compassions fail not . They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness .

Lamentations 3:21-23 (kjv)

This scripture is a reminder of how faithful God is . It’s as if he resets a clock and gives us another opportunity to get things right . Though we can often fail and fall short this is proof that as long as there is breath in our bodies there is opportunity for change .

Maintaining your color treated mane

So you have made the decision to color your hair and now have concerns about making sure it’s healthy.Whether you’ve  had your hair professionally colored or took the DIY route Here’s a few tricks of the trade that will keep your mane looking top-notch.

If you have fashion tones  (ie) pinks, reds, purple, or blues typically anything bright heat is not your friend 😢. That means direct heat from a blow dryer,  flat iron,  curling iron or any other high heat source will cause your color to fade faster than it should.  So it’s important to cut down your heat usage or eliminate it all together if at all possible if you want to get more wear out of your color. Another source of protection if you must use heat is to use a heat serum.  A heat serum acts as a barrier between the heat source and your hair which in turn helps prevents fading and heat damage

Another great way to preserve your color is to use  a sulfate free shampoo . It tends to be a bit more gentle and doesn’t strip the hair of excess moisture. Follow up with moisturizing conditioner and most importantly rinse with cool water this again helps to prevent fading.

For our more natural tones from blackest black to platinum blonde yes, you too have to go easy on the  heat  but nowhere near as much as our fashion tone friends. Thirst may be your biggest issue.  So moisture will become your best friend.

Not to worry though there are tons of ways to squeeze in a little extra moisture here and there . Start by infusing a few drops of your favorite oil (olive, coconut, sweet almond) into your conditioner .  This works wonders for the hair and leaves it feeling silky soft.

Next if you are not already doing this, now  would be great time to incorporate a leave in conditioner to your hair routine. Leave in conditioners are a quick way to add extra moisture and they can also act as a sunscreen for the hair protecting it from the sun’s intense heat

These are just a few tricks of the trade.  I hope these tips were helpful.  If you incorporate  these easy steps into hair maintenance routine you color should stay fresh and your hair undamaged.

Until next time,
